Aliina makes elegant "feather" earrings out of recycled rubber.  She loves the challenge of making a bike tube look and move like a real feather by using tiny scissors and paint -- no birds harmed in the act!

Aliina believes bicycles will save the planet and is an avid bicyclist and artist. So, she carefully picks out bike tubes with the perfect wear and thickness from a pile at the local bike shop (The ReCyclery). Cutting the tubes into feathers is the most challenging part! Embroidery scissors help her make perfect cuts along the tube seams. This seam then becomes the rib of the feather.  Once the pair shows a likeness to a feather, they come alive with paint application. The painted designs vary from abstract color flashes to fine, delicate lines or dots, or solid metallic paint.
